Quick Guide to Conflict Responses for Pastors and Sessions As you encounter congregational conflict, ask yourself the following questions: A. (For Pastors) Is this conflict affecting my ministry? B. (For Pastors or Sessions) Is this conflict affecting the work of the session or its committees, or the programs and activities of the church? C. Is this conflict at a level that requires an active response by the pastor or by the session? D. Are the issues in this conflict framed in terms of personal characteristics of leaders and/or others, or by the use of sarcasm, put-downs, etc.? E. Are those who are dissatisfied either withdrawing from dialogue, forming into groups of allies, or subverting formal processes? F. Is there misuse of the church newsletter or membership list to promote a specific agenda? G. Is there unusual absenteeism from official meetings or duties?
A "yes" to one or more of these questions is a strong signal that the Presbytery should be contacted.
