The people of Neah Bay are so gracious and Margie Ervine, the Commissioned Lay Pastor, feels privileged to be with them. Drug and alcohol abuse is a serious problem in Neah Bay along with a high rate of unemployment.
The Makah are a very generous people, giving of their resources and themselves, but the congregation is small and the ability to give financially is limited. In recent years, Neah Bay has been supported with resources, encouragement and financially by several churches in NPS Presbytery along with The INN University Ministries, a mission of First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. The INN is a ministry focused on college students and young adults. They have sponsored two spring break mission trips to Neah Bay and two short weekend trips to help with the annual church community Christmas party. Through these trips, students have learned more about their “neighbors” and how to be a part of help and change in their region.
