Committee on Ministry

Contact the Moderator: Rev. Erv Roorda

Meeting date: First Thursday of each month.

Purpose/Overview:

Our PCUSA Book of Order (BOO) overviews the COM in this way -- “Each presbytery shall elect a committee on ministry to serve as pastor and counselor to the ministers and Certified Christian Educators of the presbytery, to facilitate the relations between congregations, ministers, and Certified Christian Educators, and the presbytery, and to settle difficulties on behalf of presbytery when possible and expedient.” (G-11.0501a)

With the BOO as a guide, the North Puget Sound Presbytery COM mission is to “
Support NPSP congregations and ministers by engaging, equipping and encouraging sessions and ordained officers.”

The
BOO outlines the responsibilities of COM in G-11.0502.  NPSP COM has distilled the responsibilities listed in the BOO to the following regular functions:

1.  Assist Pastors and Congregations in Transitions and Pastoral Relationships,

2.  Promote Peace and Harmony in Conflict,

3.  Visit and Counsel parish and non-parish Ministers and Sessions, and

4.  Equip and Encourage Parish and Non-parish Ministers and Sessions in Spiritual Leadership.
